After the initial consultation, a retainer fee of $3,500-$5,000 is typically required to engage the firm and begin representation. The retainer is held in the lawyer’s trust account. As the attorney bills time or expenses, those amounts are deducted from the retainer. Any unused balance is refunded to the client when representation ends.
The retainer fee for agreed or uncontested matters may be reduced.
